What better way to toast to a super special occasion than by popping a cork of the bubbly stuff inside our Hitchcock themed hotel room, Champagne?
Champagne The Movie
The 9th of Hitchcock silent movie marvels, Champagne gave us teasers as to what was to come from the Master of Suspense.
Clever camera work was used from the onset as we stare at a 20s party in full swing through the bottom of a champagne glass as it’s being drained.
Champagne is proof that Hitchcock’s talents need no words and his skills could captivate any audience well before he sashayed into producing the thrillers and horrors he became so well known for.
Happy 90th Birthday to Champagne the movie, you are looking good for an OAP.
To celebrate Champagne, turning 90 years old here are a few rules about how to drink the bubbliest of beverages like a pro.
#1 Always Point The Cork Away From People
There’s an art to opening a bottle of Champagne. Simply hold the cork and twist the bottle, this should minimise injury and spillage.
#2 Savour Every Drop
There’s nothing more wasteful than Champagne spillage and this is why spraying your guests with the good stuff is a no, no. Hold tight and pour into a suitable receptacle.
#3 Chill Before Serving
Take a leaf out of Eddie’s book and always make sure there’s an adequate amount of prechilled Champagne to hand. There’s nothing more embarrassing than running out!
#4 Sip Don’t Slurp
If you don’t want to be that person whose speech becomes slurred before the first bubbles pop then take it slow and sip your Champagne, savour the flavour.
#5 Have the Right Glass
Experts have decided that Champagne flutes are a thing of the past and the bigger the glass the better so get your hands of a goblet for the ultimate Champagne drinking experience.
Despite what may be said among the snootier circles, the clinky is still an acceptable custom. Toast to your good health, the night ahead or the popping of the next bottle whatever the reason a clinky is a must.
#7 Invest in A Magnum
Whether you have a large group or not a Magnum is simply the only way to go when it comes to drinking Champagne . . . just stick to the aforementionned rules and take it slow, using a glass!
#8 Acceptable Garnish
Some Champagne connoisseurs may think that adding anything to your bubbly is sacrilege but we say there are a few acceptable garnishes such as certain fruits and liqueurs, find your favourite by experimenting with acceptable garnishes.
#9 Don’t Let It Go To Your Head
Bubbly can have quite an elevating effect, in fact, it’s been proven to generally lighten anyone’s mood, although some can feel effects quicker than others so tread softly when it comes to quaffing your Champers.
#10 Even So Too Much Is Just Enough
Even though you could feel extremely tipsy quite quickly the pleasant buzz that comes from drinking Champagne is a treat so enjoy knowing that you can never really have too much Champagne.
